Terms of Service
Effective: May 8, 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Teacher Elf (the “Service”). By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.
1. Eligibility
- Teachers must be at least 18 years old and authorized by their school or institution to manage student accounts on the Service.
- Self-registered users must be at least 13 years old, or have permission from a parent or legal guardian to use the Service.
- Students under 13 may only use the Service via an account created and managed by a teacher under the COPPA school-authorization model described in our Privacy Policy.
2. Account responsibilities
- Keep your sign-in credentials secure. You are responsible for activity under your account, except where caused by our error.
- Teachers managing student accounts are responsible for sharing credentials with the right student and for resetting them when appropriate.
- Notify us promptly via our contact page if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service to harass, bully, defame, or threaten any other user, including in forum posts or comments.
- Upload or share content that is sexual, hateful, violent, or otherwise inappropriate for an educational audience that includes minors.
- Use the AI tutor or generation features to create disallowed content; the system has child-safety protections that you must not attempt to circumvent.
- Interfere with the Service's operation, attempt to access other users' accounts or data, or probe for vulnerabilities outside of a coordinated disclosure.
- Use automated tools or scripts to scrape content, bulk-create accounts, or otherwise abuse the Service.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules, with or without notice.
4. Your content
- You retain ownership of decks, flashcards, forum posts, audio submissions, and other content you create.
- You grant us a non-exclusive licence to host, display, and process your content as necessary to operate the Service.
- Decks marked as public are visible to other users; you should only publish content you have the right to share.
5. AI-generated output
The Service uses third-party AI models (OpenAI, Groq) to generate text, translations, fill-in-the-blank items, and tutor responses. AI output may be inaccurate, incomplete, or unsuitable for a given context. You are responsible for reviewing AI-generated content before using it in a classroom.
6. Pricing
The Service is currently provided free of charge. We reserve the right to introduce paid plans in the future; if we do, current users will be notified before their account is affected.
7. Termination
- You may delete your account at any time from the settings page. Deletion removes your data from our database and your sign-in record from our authentication provider.
- We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, or that have been inactive for an extended period.
- Sections that by their nature should survive termination, including disclaimers, liability limits, and dispute terms, survive.
8. Disclaimer
The Service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components, or that AI-generated output will be accurate.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Teacher Elf and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill arising out of your use of the Service. Where a jurisdiction does not permit such limitations, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months preceding the claim (which, for free accounts, is zero).
10. Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced in-app. Continued use of the Service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
11. Contact
Questions about these Terms can be sent via our contact page.
